Ancient Wisdom
Traditionally, Rune casting was used to address the concerns of tribal societies. Such people were seeking to ensure the safety of their territory and that the forces of nature would be auspicious. Good weather throughout the seasons enabled successful hunting, food production and the procreation of healthy offspring. ‘The will of the gods’ was held in high esteem and, as such, the gods had the power to protect the community and safeguard fertility – such beliefs were part and parcel of Rune inquiry.
For those of us who have a reliable water supply, access to healthy
food, adequate shelter, maternity care and different beliefs, many of our
hopes and fears are unlike those of our medieval forebears. For this reason,
the ancient wisdom teachings may not be as psychologically helpful as they
once were, hence the need for fresh contemporary guidance.
