Historic Runes

Runes are symbols with professed mysterious significance. They can be inscribed onto various surfaces [wood, stones, bones] and used as a divination device – known as ‘Casting the Runes’. Nowadays Runes are also depicted in books, on charts and illustrated card decks.

Over the past millennia, different runic systems have been employed and consulted worldwide. However, the archaic one we are most familiar with today is an amalgam of the 25 Runes attributed to ancient Germanic, Norse and Viking traditions.

These Runes and their interpreters have been around for generations, offering participants synergistic guidance and clarification on prevailing circumstances. They can be appreciated as a series of icons encouraging existential exploration of the self and the ability to survive and prosper in what are sometimes hostile environments. Furthermore, the constructive personal development of individuals is collectively of benefit to the entire societal group.

Over several years, I cast the Viking Runes, both for myself and others, but lately came to question their relevance to our contemporary needs and lifestyles.
