(9) Vocation - Scales

Equilibrium in occupational activity is required to counterbalance pressures and stressful situations which can develop from a vast mix of factors: workaholism or unemployment, unfulfilling job, 24/7 work culture, taking on too many voluntary activities, caring-role demands, lack of sleep etc.
Unchecked stress can lead to burnout and medical conditions - it is essential to achieve a healthy balance.
The Rune of Vocation is directing you to think about everything which occupies a significant proportion of your time and attention other than leisure activities, family and social interactions, entertainment and sleep.
Whatever your occupation or other vocational pursuits, it is important that you are content with this area of your life. Negative feelings can trigger harmful stress biochemicals which impact your emotional welfare.
This Rune presents the question: are you content with your current occupational activities? And, if the answer is no, how would you like to change? You will need to address your work situation and income for fulfilling family responsibilities, your aspirations and worthy missions, volunteering and carer roles.
Furthermore, you are being asked to address what is sometimes referred to as the 'work-life balance'. Balance is defined as a situation in which different elements are in the correct proportions.
However, while you are reflecting on this issue, take note of a wise saying attributed to Sadhguru: "There is no such thing as work-life balance – it is all life. The balance has to be within you."
Your vocation literally means ‘your calling’, including your work. Ideally, you regard time spent on your occupational activities as valuable, interesting and enjoyable.
If not, this Rune is calling you to enact practical changes.
Even if you view your work as successful and rewarding, make sure this aspect of daily existence rests in equilibrium with your other life experiences. If the scales load too far in a tiring overworked direction, emotional pressures can build up and create harmful stress - your health saboteur.
Only you can determine the best course of action to keep your life scales in balance. Use your initiative and insight to reach the stage where you appreciate both occupation and relaxation.
Proactively factor exercise and other relieving anti-stress pursuits into your daily schedule to achieve a balanced way of life which is exciting, calming, dutiful and rewarding.
