(16) Freedom - Your Flag

Imagine yourself fully 'free to be me' as you gently wave in the breeze of liberation. You relish the freedom to survive and prosper, leaving behind any hindering doubts, worries and fears, control freaks, bullies, unreasonable bosses, idle gossipers and emotionally-draining people.
By setting healthy boundaries, you cast aside 'mind-forged manacles' (Blake) and revel in the power of self-determination on the pathway of courage.
Freedom of choice is a privilege. It means you can choose how to look after your body, how to manage your money, how to make wise life choices. How do you use this freedom? Do you allow yourself to focus attention on the true reality of testing situations such as the personal constraints of finance, health and relationships? Do you aim for reliable openness? What does freedom actually mean for you?
The Rune of Freedom cautions you to avoid overemphasise on the past as you reflect on solutions to current issues. Instead, focus on the needs of the present without being attached to specific outcomes.
Choice brings change, so always consider the variety of possible consequences that might result from unfettered risky choices and allow for uncertainty - all part of practical decision-making.
Maybe, without realising it, you are a prisoner of your own making? The bars of your metaphorical prison cell may include feelings of doubt, shame, guilt, fear, victimhood, low self-esteem or other emotional incarcerators.
This Rune is motivating you to inquire why you allow chains of negative bondage to restrain you from freedom of choice and expression.
Paradoxically, healthy freedom is also about setting boundaries - both physical and emotional. Lack of a defined framework can blur the lines between what is and is not acceptable behaviour towards you by others - subtle coercion around sex or risk-taking are examples of this.
Within your chosen boundaries you are free to spend your time and resources as you choose to do, while being able to say ‘no’ to others if what they are asking would jeopardise your freedom.
Give yourself licence to break free of habits or social norms that are patently hindering. Your mission is to find your own voice and bravely fly your freedom flag for all to see. This, in reality, means setting an impressive example for others to follow. They will want to know the secret of your free-spirited way of life.
This Rune is a member of The Inquiry Set encompassing attributes which require active curiosity, objective reasoning, the capacity to question yourself and mind-training.
"Everything can be taken from a person but one thing; the last of the human freedoms – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way." Victor Frankl - Psychiatrist and Holocaust Survivor
