(12) Learning - Knowledge Tree

Like the symbolic tree, you have the ability to grow in wisdom by being ever curious and keen to learn at every stage of life. Stretching your mind - being open to bringing in new ideas - is a key feature of Emotional Intelligence.
There are so many ways to acquire knowledge, you are spoilt for choice – make sure you do choose at least one or two!
This Rune is saying 'may the student in you live forever'. Are you currently being presented with options vying for your time? It is important for your emotional well-being to factor in 'time for learning'.
Fresh ideas and interesting information can come from many different sources; you will need to choose the ones that are best for your particular learning style.
Stimulating conversations with friends, formal education, workshops and evening classes, watching internet talks, reading about the latest scientific discoveries from historic forensics to future medical, technological and cosmological advances – these are just a few examples.
The Rune of Learning asks you to make curiosity and the acquisition of knowledge a major priority. You alone know intuitively what lessons you want to learn right now and which interests you would like to pursue.
If you need support, seek out a good teacher – one who will stimulate your imagination. Think back to childhood and remember those teachers who earned your respect and gave you a passion for learning. What was it about their methods that so inspired you? Try to recreate this ambience as you determine to grow your knowledge and know-how.
If you are in any doubt about the value of life-long learning consider its antithesis 'ignorant idleness' - defined as the absence of meaningful engagement with the many learning opportunities surrounding us. If you want to feel fully alive and stay young at heart, have boundless curiosity and a strong sense of wonder.
Your Emotional Intelligence is dependent on the willingness to keep on learning till the day you die. This is not a morbid proclamation but a wake-up call to catch your attention.
Epictetus said that spirited curiosity is an emblem of the flourishing life and interested people are themselves interesting, so spread your words of wisdom to help others.
Symbolically keep your Knowledge Tree well fed and watered, then see yourself branch out with new offshoots of understanding for all to share.
This Rune is a member of The Inquiry Set encompassing attributes which require active curiosity, objective reasoning, the capacity to question yourself and mind-training.
